Netflix Confirms “K-pop Demon Hunters” Characters Are Modeled After A-Listed Stars: Who Are They?

According to character designer commentary shared by POP CORE, the main cast of K-pop Demon Hunters wasn’t just dreamed up in a studio. They were directly inspired by some of Korea’s top stars, and the resemblances are finally confirmed.

Here’s a breakdown of the real-life inspirations:
- RUMI – The team’s fierce and stylish leader is modeled after Jennie of BLACKPINK, embodying her chic aura and commanding stage charisma.
- JINU – With his soft visuals and heartthrob energy, Jinu channels a mix of actors Nam Joo-hyuk and Cha Eun-woo, both known for their dreamy, drama-worthy looks.
- BABY SAJA – Fans suspected it from the start, and it’s true—this fun, expressive character is based on BTS’s Jimin, capturing his adorable charm and subtle flamboyance.
- ROMANCE – Pink-haired and full of edge, this stylish standout draws directly from TXT’s Yeonjun, an idol known for pushing fashion boundaries and owning the stage.
The film merges the fantastical with the familiar, reimagining K-pop idols as demon-fighting stars who must balance fame with supernatural duties. Since its release, sharp-eyed fans had noted visual similarities and style nods to real idols—and now those theories are officially validated.
Later, director Maggie Kang revealed that each KPOP Demon Hunters character was designed using inspiration boards filled with iconic Korean idols, actors, and performance elements. Rather than representing specific idols, the characters reflect common K-pop archetypes—like the muscular member or the youngest (maknae).
Saja Boys drew inspiration from groups like BIGBANG, BTS, TXT, Stray Kids, Monsta X, and ATEEZ. Though they share the same CG body model, member Abby was made more muscular. Jinu’s look was based on actors Cha Eun-woo and Nam Joo-hyuk, while BTS’s Jimin inspired the cuteness of Baby. Mystery’s design was anime-inspired, which explains his hidden face.

For Huntrix, Rumi’s style was influenced by BLACKPINK, TWICE, and ITZY. Mira took after model Ahn So-yeon, with tall, slim proportions and standout fashion. Zoey, the group’s maknae, features heart-shaped lips to emphasize her cuteness.

The confirmation only deepens the appeal of K-pop Demon Hunters, blending pop culture fandom with high-stakes action. As the movie continues to trend globally, viewers are rewatching scenes with fresh eyes, appreciating the subtle nods to their favorite idols.
Whether you’re a BLINK, ARMY, MOA, or K-drama fan, K-pop Demon Hunters just became a lot more personal.
